Blogging about something that hasn't happened yet seems a little strange. But library school is full of things that make a kind of intuitive sense after the fact, so I am just going with it. This blog will hopefully serve as a tool to find and interact with other library students (like me) and new librarians, who will use technology to Rethink the Librarian, and rethink the library. People keep asking, why library school? as if library school and libraries are archaic, outmoded and unnecessary. This seems more than a little rude to me sometimes...no one raises their eyebrows and asks, why medical school? or why an MBA?
But, if indeed the first rule of good writing is show, don't tell, this blog and some of the resources it contains will showcase some of the things librarians are up to these days, and help rethink the library and librarians. We are, and will be, a resource for our patrons and our colleagues, and can be a community for each other. This is maybe the most exciting part of using technology for me: to see other people's great ideas to help others and offer interesting ways to communicate and share knowledge.
To start, here is the link to a great blog from some of my own classmates: lislinks.blogspot.com.
